The Ten Promised Paradise

Al-'Ashara al-Mubashshara

The Ashara Mubashara are the ten companions of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ who were explicitly promised Paradise during their lifetimes. Named together in a single prophetic tradition, these men represented the innermost circle of the early Muslim community — the first to believe, the bravest in battle, the most generous in sacrifice, and the most trusted in counsel.

The ten comprise the first four caliphs (Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and Ali), along with six other companions whose service to Islam in its earliest and most perilous years earned them the highest honor a believer could receive. Together they participated in the foundational events of the faith — from the secret beginnings in Mecca through the migrations, the great battles, and the establishment of the Islamic state — and several of them shaped the political destiny of the community through the consultative council that selected the third caliph.

Their collective story encompasses the full arc of the Prophetic era: persecution endured, battles fought, wealth sacrificed, and a community built from nothing into a civilization. They are revered across Sunni Islam as paragons of faith, and their lives remain reference points for Islamic ethics, governance, and devotion.
